Raed Khoshaba wurde in Bagdad geboren. Er studierte Laute bei Salem Abdul Karem am Konservatorium von Bagdad, womit er sich die besten Voraussetzungen für seine weitere musikalische Entwicklung schuf. Sein Lehrer gehört zur berühmten Bagdadschule des Lautenspiels, mit der man in der arabischen Welt die Renaissance des Lautenspiels in Verbindung bringt. Er erhielt sein Diplom für Laute und studierte Musikwissenschaft an der Bagdad Universität und wurde anschließend Mitglied in der Musikgruppe \'Al Bayarek\'.

Khoshabas Erfolg beruht auf seiner ausgefeilten Technik des Lautenspiels. Außerdem ist er einer der originellsten Komponisten und Interpreten auf diesem Instrument. In seiner Musik bleibt seine detaillierte Kenntnis und spirituelle Bindung an die frühe arabische Kunstmusik stets erkennbar. Er hat die Möglichkeiten des Lautenspiels bedeutend erweitert. Khoshaba gehört zu den wenigen Musikern, denen es gelungen ist, in der arabischen Welt Solo-Oud-Konzerte zu geben. Er spielt vor allem traditionelle irakische Improvisationen und eigene Kompositionen. Im Laufe der Jahre entwickelte Khoshaba seine Technik des Lautenspiels und komponierte neue Stücke für die Laute, die das erweiterte Spektrum dieses Instruments berücksichtigen.

In Deutschland gründete er das Bagdad Ensemble für Irakische klassische Musik, das Ourouk Ensemble, welches die arabische und andalusische Kultur sowie Jazzelemente in einer ganz besonderen Atmosphäre präsentiert, Oriental Jazz Ensemble indem er mit saxofon, Klarinette und Schlagzeug spielt und andere musikalische Projekte.

In der belgischen stadt Liege gründete er ein Zentrum für arabische Kultur wo er Oud unterrichtet.

Raed Khoshaba was born in BAGHDAD (IRAQ). Khoshaba belongs to a very unique and old
school of ud playing. His music comes from the heart and the mind and is full of musical phrases which come from the heritage of the iraqi maqam through the art of improvisation (taqasim) and the other composition forms; thus proving his talent by using the technical aspect in playing which assured the intensity and beauty of the tone.

He went away from his country and gave ud concerts around the world where he presented the music he loved, studied and believed in, in a very unique and nice form whether as a solist or with the ensembles he created and/or played with; where he was fond of presenting his own style which has its roots in the iraqi school, as well as using a high poetic musiacl language in order to reach every human heart in the world.

Raed Khoshaba is not just a brilliant player; But like any other artist, human joys, sorrows and sufferings, the homeland and its affairs, love, beauty etc are very important sources of his inspiration.
