Vernissage - HAMBURGER KÜNSTLER NICOLAS A. BAGINSKY AN BORD DER MS STUBNITZ

Batalj (Bln)

BATALJ is a Berlin-based experimental noise/trash/mayhem-outfit from Sweden/Australia. With distorted synthesizers accompanied by frantic drum assaults, effect-drenched guitar arrangements and shrieking vocals the three-piece creates a barely comprehensible soundscape consisting of deformed rythms, blasts, bleeps, clicks, screams, more or less controlled chaos and diverse musical damaged goods hailing from hardcore punk as well as experimental noise.

The past two years the band has extensively toured Europe, played well over 100 shows and realeased two 7-inch splits as well as been on various compilations. A self-titled debut EP is now out on 7-inch vinyl on Et Mon Cul C'est Du Tofu? and Twintoe Records.

...Batalj have harvested several strands of contemporary ugliness and thrown them together like a rotten mud pie, dripping with hell-bent nihilism and destroyed music forms. Taking in blast-beat black metal, Load-type noise source manipulation and a ferocious group dynamic that, while not as free and open as Harry Pussy, definitely shares the sheer sonic harshness of said trio.
Rough Trade

Moments of chaotic noise alternated with almost dancy parts with dirty bass synth sounds & stunning drums. Hands down this was one of the best bands I saw live this year and they're probably one of the best bands in Berlin right now.
The Craze

The band plays an amazingly chaotic and inventive style of noise/punk/trash, to try and label it… but to be honest, with all the screaming, blasting disorienting drum assaults, blips, blops, and screeching, it simply has to be heard.
Folkzine

…futureworld noise and blast-beat craziness, a room full of blown eardrums and bent minds left in their wake, but when you’ve somehow gotten their idea in your head, when their vision has been somehow successfully communicated to you on some level, you’re really going to have a good time.
BlitsGigs

Batalj is a mix of heavy metal guitar, heavy metal drums and keys that sound like they came straight from Ross’ from friends. It seemed like an attempt to blend techno and heavy metal but all it did was give me headache. Saying this I did see quite a few people enjoying the set. Even after the gig one person approached the band and gave them a barrage of compliments. However I did try and see positive in this band but when they sound checked and the girl on the keys started to make noises like a pterodactyl I knew this wasn’t going to be my favourite of the night.

Staer (NO)

STAER's Happy Meal is comprised of 100% distorted, octave-pitched meat patty, two piercing blast-beat high-gluten buns, fresh salad-core and our house cunt-o-matic dressing. Choose between high-fat ring modulator or cold filtered noise.

STAER first spread its counter-cultural wings in 2008, and has since been hailed by various noise acts both locally and internationally. This thundering three-piece has an old school instrumentation of drums, bass and guitar, but sounds refreshingly new and exciting. Two releases are currently in the works, a split vinyl with legendary NOXAGT, and their debut album in Duper Studio with Joergen Tren to be released through Gaffer Records in 2012.
