Idris Ackamoor & The PyramidsUntil now, The Pyramids were a well-hidden gem from the 1970es black artistic underground. Starting off as bunch of pupils of free jazz legend Cecil Taylor at Ohio\'s no less legendary Antioch College they used a student grant to escape the US to travel to europe and then all over Africa as early as 1972, playing and recording with local musicians wherever possible. Back in the US they incorporated their African experience into a music which is as unique as visionary, releasing three albums in private press which in their original editions are much-sought after items among collectors. 2007 brought a highly energetic reunion of the group, boosting their trademark sound of massive Afro-centric drumming meets ecstatic group improvisations. The Pyramids\' extensive European tour late in 2010 (after the reissue of their old albums) turned out to be a great triumph: The collective received rave reviews and standing ovations in every city they played in. On a 2011 summer tour they were able to repeat their initial success, blew Gilles Peterson\'s mind on a show at Worldwide Festival and recorded a new album (the first one since 1977!) at the studio of Krautrock legends Faust in South Germany: “Otherworldly” was released by Munich\'s long-running Disko B imprint. Early in 2012 they celebrated their UK debut with a fantastic two-night-residency at London\'s Café OTO and a stint at Gilles Peterson\'s Worldwide Awards (The Pyramids\' spiritual and musical leader, Idris Ackamoor. was honored with an award for \'lifetime achievements\' there). presale tickets online here: http://www.tixforgigs.com/site/Pages/Shop/ShowEvent.aspx?ID=12513 AK : 12 €
