CONGS FOR BRUMS

my solo percussion pieces.
On my forthcoming release, I wrote all of the vibraphone pieces on piano and gave them to myself as etudes to learn. I then attempted to write drumset and junk percussion pieces which borrow ideas from the vibes pieces. I have more recently
been writing at the vibraphone in order to take advantage of the timbral characteristics of the instrument.

Ches Smith

I play drums and percussion, and some horrible piano. I write music for solo percussion, jazz small groups, big bands and rock bands. Lately I've been playing with Good for Cows, Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, Secret Chiefs 3, Trevor Dunn's Trio-Convulsant, Ben Goldberg, Xiu Xiu and 7 Year Rabbit Cycle as well as my own projects Congs for Brums and These Arches. I would love to play with Theory of Ruin again if those assholes didn't have all the funds frozen. SECRET CHIEF 3 or SC3 is the group around Trey Spruance, who participated with Faith No More, John Zorn, Melt Banana, Otto von Schirach, and Asva just to name a few, he also runs the Web of Mimicry - Label.
The other members are Ches Smith (Xiu Xiu, Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog), Shahzad Ismaili (Tom Waits, Graham Haynes, Laurie Anderson), Timb Harris (Estradasphere), Jai Young Kim & Toby Driver.
SC3 live is a mix undefineable mix of Avant-Rock, Grindcore, Jazz and Ennio Morricone like Filmmusic
