live: Deodato Siquir Quartet (DK)

Afro-beat / Nu-jazz

The music has warm, grooving pulses from Mozambique such as Marrabenta, Muthimba, and Muganda, coloured with Jazz, resulting in a sophisticated vibrant sound.
Add soft poetic singing in a mix of Portuguese, English and Ronga and lyrics on universal themes.

"Tasty African Danish- Deodato Siquir has made a solid and enjoyable African jazz CD here. At times his breezy style is similar to that of Cameroon's Richard Bona- light, accessible, full of catchy riffs, pleasant vocals and expertly played solos. Repeated listening reveals further pleasures and nuances that are more than enough to make this disc one to keep and savor". Tom Orr/ World Music Central

The rich texture of Siquir`s voice is just one of many qualities he reveals
in a debut album that underlines the maturity of this migrant from
Mozambique. Siquir is at his best when he introduces a sense of urgency to
his compositions, with "Harmony" being a particularly fine example of this.
The latter takes off largely thanks to the outstanding contribution by
renowned bass player Linley Marthe, as well as the backing vocals. The
lyrics move effortlessly from Portuguese to Mozambican Ronga...this
multi-talented artist stretches his musical world further, as he begins to
do in "Ao Meu Povo" and the closing track "Chegou Alegria". If he does,
Deodato Siquir s infectious smile and livewire live performances are likely
to spread beyond the circle of admirers he has established in Scandinavia".
