MUSIC AND DANCE
Music and dance have always gone hand in hand in Africa, but unfortunately when represented internationally, the two often get disentangled. With this project we want to re-contextualize the music through its dance element, and take it a step further by involving contemporary dancers and choreographers to create new modern interpretations to the music from the project.

The first phase of the project took place in Uganda around the Nyege Nyege Festival 2022 with residencies before and after the festival as well as artists’ shows and debates at the festival. Further phases will take place in 2023 in Germany at the CTM festival in Berlin, two residency phases at MS Stubnitz in Hamburg, at Festsaal Kreuzberg for the closing Afropollination event in June 2023 and with a partnership with Cosmo Radio (Cologne).

Violence Gratuite

VIOLENCE GRATUITE
Cameroon/France, music producer

The phantom of the panther that haunts the ancestral forests of western Cameroon, Violence Gratuite is the child of the fertile soils of lands ravaged by generations of bloodthirsty men. His proses dressed in electromagnetic waves create worlds where singing, rap and techno transform the club into a Fest Noz. Discharge of trap, spectrum of French variety that slams. The entries are free and the floors are slippery.

Pö x Fanny Love

Ghana/France, vocalist, producer, dj

Living between France and Uganda, French-Ghanaian vocalist Pö possesses a unique perspective that shapes and deepens her artistic expression. 'Cociage' is her incendiary debut release, and showcases a confident hybridization of vastly different sounds, from rap and noise to ambient and traditional folk. A member of electronic pop duo Poko Poko alongside Congolese producer Rey Sapienz, Pö creates her enveloping soundscapes almost exclusively with her voice. Looping it into hallucinatory textures, she juxtaposes transcendent shimmers with raspy, post-punk bulletins and quick-fire industrial rhythms.

'I am the inner voices, the spirits that animate, the ghosts crawling behind closed eyes. I have always been there, originate from deep down and come and go with the tides of emotions;
I began expressing myselves through the electronic waves; doorway for unuttered thoughts, for unspoken words trapped behind the lips of the conventional physical realm.

I closely watched the wind amplifying its howl through the crack of a door, the vehemence of the waterfall when it hits the stone, the vociferous statement of a mountain in its avalanche.
I learnt and chose to replicate running through the wires of machines.'
