JESSICA EKOMANE
Electronic musician, sound artist

Jessica Ekomane is a French-born and Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist. Her practice unfolds around live performances and installations. Her quadraphonic performances, characterized by their physical affect, seek a cathartic effect through the interplay of psychoacoustics, the perception of rhythmic structures and the interchange of noise and melody. Her ever-changing and immersive sonic landscapes are grounded in questions such as the relationship between individual perception and collective dynamics or the investigation of listening expectations and their societal roots.

Jessica Ekomane is one the six composers chosen as collaborators by Natascha Süder
Happelman for her installation at the German pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2019. She’s also part of the SHAPE Platform roaster of artists for 2019. September 2019 will see the release of her first LP Multivocal via Important Records. Her work has been presented in various institutions worldwide such as CTM festival (Berlin), Ars Electronica (Linz), Dommune (Tokyo) and Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha).

Bloomfeld (de/ci) x Miziguruka (rw)
BLOOMFELD - Producer

Bloomfeld is researching and documenting innovative momentums across all domains of cultural production.

His own music, digital art, and performance aim at expanding the intersection of ethno-futurist braindance and functional/hedonistic club heat.

While allowing for the heads to over-intellectualise, Bloomfeld’s output often exposes what comes out of the speakers as just wiggly air after all. Existence is a cosmic joke.

Bloomfeld runs the Overthinker Mob research imprint, among many other missions “rejecting conventional formats for releasing music“ (FACT Mag) by „putting out unfinished or “overthought” music from artists anonymously“ (Resident Advisor) – Compiling „a diverse range of anti-ego club tunes and somber atmospheres“ (Electronic Beats).

He has been a founding member of multiple community radio projects in Germany and the UK, and held a residency on Rinse FM with his “Culture vs. Reality“ show.

Sisso x Maiko (tz)
Producers

Sisso's and Maiko productions epitomize Singeli's hyperlocal scenius, distilling the vitality and struggle of life of the fringes of the Swahili-speaking world's most populous city, into a unique music which seems to reflect the idea of keeping a cool head in frenetic situations. Between their ratchet rhythms and pitched-up melodies there's a sublime, unresolved tension at play, where the music feels to accelerate so fast that dancers are gliding, sustaining a breathlessly 'up' effect that uncannily recalls mid '90s UK happy hardcore as much as Chicago footwork, Caribbean Soca, and Shangaan disco, yet with a psychotomimetic appeal all of its own.

Debmaster (fr/de)
Producer

French, yet a 'Berliner' for the past 12 years, Julien Deblois aka Debmaster, is the eclectic producer behind many of the exciting releases on Hakuna Kulala.

While Debmaster had a lot of fun playing live with his noisy friends in Berlin (Jason Forrest, Patric Catani, Chris Imler & others 'crazy people'). His 2015 encounter with the overactive Nyege Nyege scene was the perfect outlet when they invited him to send 'some beats' for artists who were recording weekly in a DIY recording studio in Kampala. Mc Yallah and him started to work together around 2018 for the first EP Ndi Mukazi, quickly followed by Kubali.

He now produces music every day, mainly for Hakuna Kulala and Mc Yallah. He is also behind releases of Ecko Bazz (Mmaso), Biga yut (Walah), Will'stone (Mbv5) and more to come...
