19:30	Event CP Unit (us), John Hughes & Chad Popple avantgarde \| freejazz \| improvisation \| contemporary \| noise CP UNIT: Aspekte von Noise Rock, Musique Concrete, Psychedelic Rock und Ornette Colemans Harmolodic Funk: Die kollektive Vorstellungskraft war schon immer die treibende Kraft hinter der Musik von CP Unit. Unter der Leitung des Saxophonisten und Komponisten Chris Pitsiokos werden Struktur und Inhalt in Echtzeit erzeugt, wobei die Prinzipien des Individuums und des Ganzen kühn und gleichzeitig zur Geltung kommen. Chris Pitsiokos: saxophone Jasper Stadhouders: guitar Dan Peter Sundland: bass Luca Marini: drums Popple und Hughes spielen seit 20 Jahren in verschiedenen Hamburger Bands und mit vielen reisenden Musikern. Als Duo bieten sie an diesem besonderen Abend eine seltene Gelegenheit, möglicherweise mit einem Überraschungsgast. 20:30	Live Hughes/Popple Duo John Hughes: double bass Chad Popple: percussion Flow and form transport from moment to moment, invented folklore, free jazz exploding with the spirit of heavy metal. Bowed and strummed double bass coupled with the percussion arsenal of the drummer of Gorge Trio and Colossamite. Popple and Hughes have been playing together regularly for more than 20 years as the rhythm section in countless Hamburg-based bands (Hosho, Piho Hupo, Deep Space X, Rocket Number 9...) in addition to performing with many travelling musicians (Andrew Raffo Dewar, Frank Paul Schubert, Luís Vicente...). Nach einem Studium der Musik am Montgomery Community College im Rockville Maryland 1991, zog er nach Baltimore. Dort wechselte er aufgrund des wachsenden Interesses, Jazz zu spielen, 1993 vom E- zum Kontrabass. Im Jahre 1997 nahm John Hughes Kontrabasstunden bei F. Vattel Cherry und spielte in verschiedenen Formationen in Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia und Washington D.C. DEUTSCHLAND Seit 1998 wohnt John Hughes in Hamburg. Er spielt Kontrabass in verschiedenen Gruppen u.a. bei Hosho, Rocket No.9, The Low End, Winnitzki/Hughes/Lücker, Eisenrot, Piho Hupo und in der Zead Khawam's Oriental Band. Neben Soloprojekten arbeitet er mit Tänzern und Künstlern in interdisziplinären Aktionen. John wirkt auch bei Barner 16, ein inklusives Netzwerk professioneller Kulturproduktionen von Künstlern mit und ohne Handicaps in den Bereichen Musik, Tanz/Performance, Film und Video. John hat folgende Konzertreihen organisiert: die Plattformen für die freie improvisierte Musik, Jazz und Free-Jazz waren/sind : Echolot , ( Alfred Schnittke Akademy ), Jazz im El Brujito, Creative Improvised Music in the Gängeviertel, Jazz in the Grete und Multiphonics für die er in 2016 einen Preis als bester Veranstalter erhalten hat. 2030

The CP Unit, Berlin Version Chris Pitsiokos: saxophone Jasper Stadhouders: guitar Dan Peter Sundland: bass Luca Marini: drums CHRIS PITSIOKOS is the most talked about young saxist who has emerged from the Downtown Scene in the past few years. He has a singular sound which is informed by early Zorn-like multiphonics and keeps reaching for further out experimentation. He leads several bands (check out the CP Unit on Clean Feed) and has collaborated with Weasel Walter, Nate Wooley, Dre Hocevar and Joe Morris. Chris recently toured in Europe, Japan and the mid-west. Chris Pitsiokos: 'My mode of composition with CP Unit has evolved over the years, and has basically gotten looser and looser with time. The first album involved „charts“ basically, with fully written out unique parts, different sections that specified who was to improvise at a given point, etc. As things progressed, I got looser and sometimes only dictated a couple of melodies and left the bandmates to build structures in real time.
